Introducing The Local: Twin Cities

We’ll be launching our Twin Cities newsletter in mid-August. The Local: Twin Cities will be a carefully curated blend of essential, delightful and meaningful information designed to make you feel more engaged with the news, and more connected to Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Our newsletter will be co-hosted by Shadi Bushra and Jay Gabler, Twin Cities locals who both have long careers in journalism.

Read more about our hosts and sign up for the newsletter below.

Meet the hosts

Shadi Bushra

Shadi comes to us from MinnPost, a nonprofit newsroom, where his reporting included how federal policy shifts affected asylum seekers and how immigrant-run businesses responded to Operation Metro Surge.

He arrived in the U.S. as a 3-year-old refugee from Sudan and soon moved to Minnesota. After graduating from Stanford University and Columbia Journalism School, he worked for Reuters in London, Cairo and Sudan as both a reporter and photographer.

He now lives in Farmington, Minn., with his wife, four children, several dogs, cats and a bearded dragon.

Jay Gabler

Jay has spent the last few years covering arts and culture for the Duluth News Tribune, where he wrote and narrated a five-part podcast on the history of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

He previously served as arts editor at the Twin Cities Daily Planet, theater critic at City Pages and a digital producer at Minnesota Public Radio’s music station, The Current. He also has Ph.D. in sociology from Harvard University.

Jay, who has a side hustle doing book reviews on Instagram, moved back home to Minneapolis this summer.

We’ll be in touch when we launch!
