President Donald Trump enraged the nation Friday when he blamed Minnesota for a water system cyberattack that investigators suggest could have been orchestrated by Iran.
Trump disputed law enforcement officials’ claims that Iran could be to blame for cyberattacks on more than 30 facilities during a cabinet meeting Friday at Camp David.
“I think I blame it on Minnesota because they’re grossly incompetent,” Trump said. “I would blame it on Minnesota and the governor, the corrupt governor of Minnesota.”
Trump then denied any Iran involvement.
“Iran should be so lucky,” Trump said. “Iran’s got bigger problems than worrying about Minnesota.”
The president’s remarks sickened many onlookers who linked comment to a personal animus toward Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
“Just incredible to watch the US president take Iran’s side when my state’s water systems are under cyberattack,” marveled Minneapolis-based journalist Aaron Rupar.
“Trump is so fixated on retribution against Minnesota that he’d rather attack Minnesota than Iran,” posted Minnesota statehouse candidate Aaron Klemz.
“He’s siding with our enemies over a state that didn’t vote for him,” observed Bluesky user Mike Bloom. “He is absolutely disgusting.”
“Every state that didn’t vote for him is now in danger,” wrote actor and comedian Dietrich Bader.
“His own FBI assessed it was Iran,” pointed out political strategist Sawyer Hackett. “They also said they attacked multiple states.”
“He’s been coming after us Minnesotans since day 1 of his second term,” opined “Proud Minnesotan” knewsy. “Walz called him weird and that struck him so deep all he wants is revenge on us.”
“Hope Minnesota voters ask representatives like [House Majority Whip Tom Emmer] about this in the future when it turns out it was Iran behind the attack,” suggested author Chris Katje.
“That’s certainly a take,” gulped The Record’s Martin Matishak.
“Telling that Trump thinks Americans in Minnesota are a bigger enemy than Iran,” seethed Bluesky user Angry Uncle Sam. “Can’t believe our military rolled over for this f—ing traitor. ‘Enemies foreign and domestic,’ my ass.”
