How Andrew Garfield feels about successor Tom Holland’s Spider-Man portrayal

Andrew Garfield has nothing but praise for his “Spider-Man” successor, Tom Holland.

“I think Tom is an incredible actor playing that character, and I love him and support him, and just want the best for him,” Garfield exclusively told Page Six at the screening of his new film the “Magic Faraway Tree” in New York City on July 30.

He added, “I love Tom. I love Spider-Man; I always have loved Spider-Man since I was 3 years old.”

The “We Live in Time” actor, 42, revealed that he was looking forward to watching Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which premieres on Friday.

“I’m very, very excited to see the film,” Garfield added, expressing his enthusiasm about the Marvel franchise.

Garfield — who played the web-slinging superhero in 2012’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” and the 2014 sequel “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” — was the second actor to take on the role for Sony.

He followed Tobey Maguire, who played the character for the studio between 2002 and 2007 in the original “Spider-Man” film trilogy.

Maguire and Garfield notably appeared alongside Holland in Marvel Studios’ “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” surprising fans as they reprised their roles as the superhero in the multiverse-focused film.

“It was an amazing experience,” Holland previously dished about filming with Garfield and Maguire during a 2024 episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

When asked about his reaction to the news that he would be returning as Spider-Man in the 2021 Marvel film, Garfield shared in an interview with Esquire that it was “honestly the most joyful thing ever.”

“This is gonna be the greatest thing in the world,” the “Tick, Tick… Boom!” star laughed while joking that “all the pressure was on Tom,” while he and Maguire were free to relax during filming.

Marvel Studios’ fourth Spider-Man film starring Holland swings into theaters on July 31.

The “Magic Faraway Tree” — which also stars Claire Foy — premieres on August 21. The film focuses on the fixation of technology, as the tree transports the family to a magical land away from modern-day distractions.

“I’m as addicted as anybody to my devices, and I do everything I can to try and mitigate it,” Garfield told Page Six on the red carpet. “It’s very hard because they are addictive by nature. They’ve created a dependency, and it’s tough.

“I think the last big commodity on the planet right now is time space, and quiet, and I think that’s going to become more and more valuable as time goes on now because our attention’s been captured and stolen by these things all the time.”
