‘Tell Us Where to Look,’ Savannah Guthrie Pleads 6 Months Into Search

The television anchor Savannah Guthrie made a desperate new plea for help on Monday, just days shy of the six-month mark of the mysterious vanishing of her 84-year-old mother.

Addressing the unknown person responsible for the disappearance, Ms. Guthrie said in a video posted to Instagram: “I’m asking you, begging you, to do the right thing now.”

The “Today” show host’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, has been missing since early morning on Feb. 1, when a figure wearing a ski mask was recorded by doorbell camera at her home near Tucson, Ariz.

“Make the right choice,” Ms. Guthrie continued in the video. “Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her. I truly believe it is never too late to do the right thing. Help us bring this situation to an end.”

The apparent kidnapping of Ms. Guthrie from her home in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains, by a man who appeared to be armed with a holstered handgun, led to a massive search and flurry of news media coverage.

In the following days, news outlets received several ransom notes demanding money. Some were deemed fake by investigators, while the F.B.I. has said others might be genuine.

Ms. Guthrie and her older sister and brother issued several video statements pleading with the kidnapper to return their mother, who had several health problems that made it dangerous for her to be without her medication. In one video, they suggested that a ransom note had indicated that their mother had died.

Ms. Guthrie has issued a $1 million reward for a tip leading to her mother’s return, on top of the F.B.I.’s $100,000 reward.

The agency said earlier this month that the case was a suspected kidnapping for ransom.

Nancy Guthrie had retired from a communications role at the University of Arizona in 2007 and enjoyed hosting relatives and playing mahjong. She was reported missing when she did not arrive to a friend’s house as planned to watch a mass via livestream.

Ever since, Savannah Guthrie said in her new video, her family has been living a “nightmare that will not end.”

“For all of us, no matter where we’ve been and what we’ve done, I believe there is always a way home,” she said. “Please make the right choice.”
