‘Just keeps going!’ Analysts astounded by ‘uncomfortable’ Trump ovation

Political analysts couldn’t stop laughing as they watched an awkward moment at the end of a President Donald Trump speech.

In an episode of Bulwark Takes, political analysts Sam Stein and Ben Parker looked back at a speech by Trump earlier in the day where he unveiled his “Ratepayer Protection Pledge” at the Environmental Protection Agency, in particular how it ended.

“Portions were about [ratepayers], and then some of it was about like Shohei Ohtani,” Stein explained. “It was all over. It was classically Trump. A little bit of Iran sprinkled in there and all this stuff.”

However, Stein was more interested in looking at what happened as Trump left. He was sent off by a lengthy standing ovation by the people in attendance.

“We have like a very Kim Jong Un scene here where the clapping just does not stop,” Stein said before playing “the whole uncomfortable minute of clapping.”

The clip that they played showed at least 30 seconds of a standing ovation that “just keeps going,” Stein said. The applause seems to die down a bit after those 30 seconds, but it turns out not to stop and drags on. “Oh, we’re still going,” Stein joked. “Again, keep going.”

The clapping does come out to about a full minute before Stein cuts away. Parker joked, “Were they expecting Shohei Ohtani to come out? Is that what they thought?” referring to the star baseball player who appeared at the White House later that day.

“That is the kind of thing you hear about happening in like Stalinist Soviet Union, and Castro’s Cuba,” Parker said.

Stein compared it to a 2018 incident during the first Trump administration where former Vice President Mike Pence oddly hid his water bottle after Trump had just done the same.

“That was such a great moment,” Stein remembered.
