‘Trump was punch-drunk’: D.C. socialite reveals what MAGA bigwig begged her to keep quiet

A Washington D.C. socialite revealed on Sunday a secret truth she says a MAGA bigwig begged her to keep quiet.

Sally Quinn, a writer known as a “legendary D.C. hostess,” shared in her New York Times opinion piece Sunday the scolding she received last fall from Kellyanne Conway at a private club — and the opinion Quinn was told to keep to herself.

“Stop writing all these pieces about how terrible Washington is now and how everyone is so depressed and scared,” Conway snapped, according to Quinn. “We’re having fun! You know what your problem is? You’re not invited to the right dinners and parties.”

Quinn told her readers, “I held my tongue.”

But her opinion of her home town under President Donald Trump’s administration didn’t change.

“It’s not that the party is over, exactly,” wrote Quinn. “And to be clear, there’s lots more damage that will be done to this city, and to our democracy — not to mention America’s place in the world — before Mr. Trump and his rabble are through. But it’s clearly starting to dawn on the MAGA minions that the morning after is going to be a doozy.”

The socialite divulged the gory, grimy details of a mounting vibe shift in D.C. that she argues reached the tipping point the day of Trump’s Ultimate Fighting Championship bout on the White House lawn.

Quinn noted the mood at a hot restaurant felt weirdly off.

“The day before the cage fights, Cafe Milano, one of the hottest restaurants in Washington for the past 34 years, was packed,” Quinn wrote. “Much to the chagrin of some of the regulars, a number of the MAGA crowd in town for the U.F.C. event were there.”

“But the mood felt off. Less jubilant. As if they knew that the U.F.C. fights were really going to be the moment when MAGA jumped the shark.”

The cause for the supposed fall from grace for Washington’s MAGA crowd, Quinn suggested, was none other than Trump himself.

“The cage fights may have been the tipping point for many here — the moment, with the combatants tromping with cartoonish bravado through the White House, that it became clear that Mr. Trump was punch-drunk, raging against his enemies,” she wrote.

J. Michael Luttig, a former U.S. Court of Appeals judge who has turned against Trump, told Quinn why he felt the mood had changed.

Luttig said, “Trump eats his own.”
