Clothing brand pulls 6,000 sweaters from shelves due to risk of death from fire

A major clothing brand has initiated a recall for approximately 6,000 women’s sweaters due to a failure to meet federal flammability safety standards, causing risk of “serious burn injuries or death,” according to a recent U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) notice.

The safety recall impacts the Madewell Double V-Neck Pullover and V-Neck Cardigan styles, available in both light blue and cream colors.

The CPSC says that “recalled sweaters violate the mandatory standard for clothing textiles, posing a risk of serious burn injuries or death.”

These items were sold at Madewell and T.J. Maxx stores, as well as through their respective websites, between December 2024 and October 2025.

To determine if a garment is part of the recall, owners should check the internal labels.

Affected sweaters feature a “Madewell” neck tag and a side seam label marked with style numbers NT611, NT612, or the code “HO24.”

Although no injuries have been reported to date, the company has documented one instance of a sweater catching fire.

The CPSC advises consumers to immediately cease wearing the garments to avoid potential burn hazards.

Madewell is providing full refunds to all affected customers.

To claim a refund, you must cut the sweater in half, take a photo of the destroyed garment, and email it to [email protected] before disposal.
