For 10 seasons, viewers have been watching Lindsay Hubbard and her “Summer House” castmates travel to the Hamptons every weekend in the summer to throw over-the-top theme parties, host family-style catered dinners and, occasionally, hook up with each other.
And while the future of the Emmy-nominated “Summer House” feels uncertain — a secret relationship between two castmates this past season made headlines and led to casting changes — Hubbard is continuing to forge her own path.
A new show on Bravo, “In the City,” premiered this spring and focuses on Hubbard and her real-life New York City friend group, including her longtime “Summer House” co-star Kyle Cooke, as they all enter new life phases. For Hubbard, that next chapter was becoming a mother to her daughter, Gemma, in December 2024.
On “Summer House,” “we’ve always made decisions,” Hubbard said, “but they were kind of silly: ‘Should I put a bathing suit on or a cover-up?’ Now it’s like, ‘Should we have kids?’ ‘Is this the right time?’ ‘Should I move across the country for my boyfriend?’”
On the new series, her hope is to show viewers that life doesn’t end when you become a parent. Hubbard said that, as a single mother now, there are just different considerations. “Do I want to date again? What kind of guy do I want? I can no longer just date for fun — or can I?”
Additionally, Hubbard’s time on reality TV has given her an opportunity to reflect on herself and her past choices. “I’m able to watch myself and correct,” she said. “I grew up in my adult life on reality — us in New York, we don’t really grow up until we’re in our 30s, and my entire 30s have been on television.”
While “Summer House” filmed only on the weekends, “In the City” filmed nearly around the clock, Hubbard said. “I’m excited for viewers to really see the struggles and celebrations that we go through daily.”
In a Rockefeller Center conference room, Hubbard discussed her love of dancing as stress relief, her mini-me daughter and the best way to wake up. These are edited excerpts from the conversation.
My Daughter, Gemma
She is the biggest light in my life. She is such a fun energy, she is so vibrant and so excited. She loves to tackle people, but then give them a hug and a kiss, which is pretty much me.
The Beach
I grew up in Florida, and I grew up fishing on a boat with my parents pretty much my whole life. I just love the sunshine, the vitamin D. Give me a beach and I am the happiest girl in the world.
Sandwiches
There’s just no shortage of my love for sandwiches, and it’s pretty much my lunch every single day. I love an Italian sandwich. I love a Cuban. I love a roast beef sandwich with a little aioli.
Dancing Behind the D.J. Booth
I’ve always been the hype girl. Dancing is very much so an outlet to relieve stress for me, it just is my way of exorcising the demons out of my body. And especially when Kyle [Cooke] is D.J.-ing. He’s a fun D.J.!
Girls’ Nights In (Wine Included)
Going through a breakup, co-parenting and filming two back-to-back shows, all in the first year I became a mom, that leaves very little time. I also just really enjoy not putting makeup on when I don’t have to. So I’ll get the wine, you get to my house.
My Nespresso
The second I wake up, I need coffee. I have an Nespresso at home. Carl [Radke of “Summer House”] got it for me for our first Christmas together. I’ve kept it ever since.
Long-Distance Boyfriends
I do have suitors at the moment. However, they’re long-distance and I’m really enjoying that. They won’t bother me. Pretty much 100 percent of my time is dedicated to being a mom and work; I don’t have time to go out and meet guys.
Breath Fresheners
Almost everything I do these days, I’m interacting with people. I either have to have the Listerine strips that melt on your tongue or the spray, and I just go around spraying everyone.
Archipelago Hand Cream
Out of everything on my body, my hands get the driest. So I carry the Archipelago soy milk hand cream on me at all times. I’ve been using this for upward of, I want to say, 12 years.
Admin Days to Cross Off My To-Do Lists
Very much needed and necessary. Otherwise things build up and then you’re stressed out and the to-do list grows.
