“Succession” alum Brian Cox appeared completely unrecognizable while filming the TV series “Dexter: Resurrection.”
The veteran actor, 80, was snapped in character on the set of the Paramount+ series’ second season Wednesday in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens, New York.
Cox — who is playing Don Framt (aka the New York Ripper) in the spinoff — wore a blue polo and dark blue pants, and was seated in a motorized wheelchair.
He’d grown his white hair out to a longer hairstyle and sported a mustache, adding a pair of wire-rimmed glasses for the role.
In another snapshot, the actor, still in a wheelchair, is pictured behind the glass at what appeared to be a local eatery.
Additional photos taken on June 29 show Cox wearing a white ball cap and stained, light-colored polo with dark slacks. He was seated in the motorized wheelchair in a park clutching a pair of binoculars.
Cox’s character Framt was introduced to audiences in Season 1 of “Dexter: Resurrection,” without ever being seen on screen.
An official release from Paramount+ in April described Cox’s character as “a serial killer who terrorized the City years ago. Though no longer active as a killer, he’s found a new way to live into his infamy by continuing to taunt the survivors of his long-ago murder spree.”
Cox — who was the first actor to play Dr. Hannibal Lecter in 1986’s “Manhunter” — is a longtime Emmy, Golden Globe, and BAFTA Award winner whose career spans both TV and film.
Though the Scottish actor has yet to comment on the new role, he has spoken out in the past about how he approached playing serial killer Lecter — years before Anthony Hopkins took on the role in 1991’s “Silence of the Lambs.”
“It’s so easy to play people as bogeymen — ‘scary guys’ — but the thing that’s scary about someone is how acceptable they are,” Cox told Woman’s World in March.
“That’s what’s really scary, because we can act with that and that makes a character frightening,” he added.
Elsewhere in the interview, Cox cited serial killer Ted Bundy as an example of how he approached the character.
“I saw a lot of those Bundy trials,” he told the outlet. “I tried to tap into Bundy’s kind of almost acceptability.”
And despite decades of experience, Cox has been candid about the difficult job of transforming into a character.
“I find it hard, and I’ve been doing it for 60 years,” the Scottish actor once said, according to the BBC.
