A woman in Northern California landed right in the lap of law enforcement after she allegedly stole from a vehicle and was arrested in the yard of an off-duty police officer on Monday.
The suspect, a 37-year-old woman named Lacey Roberts, allegedly robbed a car in the 1800 block of Humboldt Road in Chico when the homeowner confronted her.
“When the homeowner confronted her, she led across the creek and into a nearby residential area. Unfortunately for her, she picked the wrong neighborhood,” the Chico Police Department (CPD) said on Facebook.
“Roberts then found herself face-to-face with an off-duty Chico Police officer. After climbing onto a parked truck and jumping the fence into a neighboring yard, the homeowner escorted Roberts to the front of the property, where the officer attempted to detain her,” the statement further read.
She then attempted to flee again, but the officer managed to detain her until an on-duty police came to the scene, sustaining minor injuries during the process.
Roberts was arrested on four misdemeanor warrants and booked for additional charges, including battery on a peace officer and possessing a controlled substance inside a detention facility, according to CPD.
This comes after a shocking event, where a gunman killed two men and injured a young girl at the Butte County Library, Chico Branch, occurred on June 22.
The 18-year-old gunman was supposedly inspired by the Columbine High School Massacre in 1999 and part of online forums that engaged in mass shooting discussions.
