At the star-studded wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, one celebrity in particular stood out from the pack––the officiant: comedian and actor Adam Sandler.
Sandler, best known for his leading roles in movies such as Uncut Gems and 50 First Dates, has connections to both the bride and groom going back years.
Most recently, Sandler worked with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end last year on the set of Happy GIlmore 2, a sequel to the 1996 film about a failed-hockey-player-turned-golf-star. Kelce, who had a cameo as a waiter, publicly thanked Sandler for the opportunity following the release of the movie.
“Man this life is crazy!! Still so surreal I got this opportunity,” Kelce wrote in an Instagram post last July, around the time of the movie’s release. “SANDMAN!! Thank you brotha, for the opportunity.”
Sandler also complimented Kelce that summer in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, calling him “a great actor and a great human.”
“Travis is such a gentle, nice guy, and funny as hell,” Sandler said. “He’s like the guys I grew up with. When I was with Travis, it reminded me of my buddies in high school and just being able to laugh and say the things you want to say.”
He also called Swift, the 14-time Grammy award-winner, “incredible.”
“Taylor is so damn nice to my family and has always been,” Sandler said. “My kids have met Taylor a bunch of times over the years, and she’s ridiculously nice to them and warm.”
Earlier in 2025, Sandler also appeared on Kelce’s podcast “New Heights,” which he co-hosts with his brother, Jason, a former center for the Philadelphia Eagles. Kelce, sporting a “Happy Gilmore” hat for the episode, called Sandler “the legend.”
Sandler previously appeared on the podcast in 2024, telling Kelce how much Swift’s music means to his family.
“What a girl! What a girl!,” Sandler said while discussing his family’s visit to Swift’s “Eras Tour” film. “Dude, she means so much to our house,” Sandler continued. “I love what she had to say. Every message. Every melody … What she meant to young girls, what she means to women.”
Swift and Kelce’s marriage––preceded by weeks of wedding rumors and scant details––was announced on the big screens of Madison Square Garden in New York City, where the couple hosted the event, in a message that read: “JUST&T MARRIED!” in reference to Travis and Taylor.
A representative for Swift confirmed to several outlets in a statement that the wedding also involved Swift’s brother as the “man of honor” and Kelce’s brother as the best man. The wedding reportedly drew a long list of celebrities, including Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Grant, Brad Pitt and Selena Gomez.
What has Adam Sandler been up to recently?
Even before officiating one of the most closely watched weddings in years, Sandler has remained in the limelight, and kept busy.
According to reports from March, he will play the role of a man who has been fired and struggles to keep the secret from his family in Time Out––a psychological drama from Netflix.
Netflix in May also confirmed Grown Ups 3, the third film in a series about a group of childhood friends who rekindle their relationship as adults. The first of the three films was a major hit, and came out in 2010, while the second film released three years later.
In February, Sandler was honored with the Maltin Modern Master Award, presented by the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, along with other movie icons such as Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, George Clooney, and Robert Downey Jr.
He was also the recipient of this year’s AARP’s Movies for Grownups Career Achievement Award. CEO of AARP, Myechia Minter-Jordan, called Sandler “a Hollywood legend whose remarkable career has set a new standard for comedic storytelling, captivating audiences across generations.”
In late 2025, Sandler received a Golden Globe nomination for his role in the film Jay Kelly.
