Prince William discussed his love for all things football — American football and the World Cup on a special episode of the Kelce brothers’ “New Heights” podcast released on Friday.
The high-profile interview with the heir to the British throne and Travis and Jason Kelce aired on the same day Travis and Taylor Swift will celebrate their wedding at Madison Square Garden, an event many fans have likened to America’s royal wedding.
William, who has been sharing a less formal side of himself in recent media interviews, spoke about his role as president of England’s Football Association and the vice royal patron of the Welsh Rugby Union. He said he harbored an affinity for soccer over his father’s objections.
“My father hates football,” William said. “My family haven’t got a particularly long history with football.”
American football has grown in popularity in London, William said, adding, “If we could understand the rules a bit more over here, that might help.”
He also turned his attention to the World Cup and said English fans traveling to the United States will experience culture shock over beer and stadium size.
William and two of his children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, met Swift and Kelce backstage during a 2024 Eras Tour performance in London, posting a photo that quickly went viral.
“We were so nervous to meet you guys,” Travis Kelce said during the podcast.
Jason Kelce, who also attended that Eras tour stop, added that meeting Princess Charlotte was the highlight for him, noting that he is raising four daughters.
“Having four daughters,” William said. “I don’t know how you do that.”
