Most dangerous CA cities to celebrate July 4th revealed — including ritzy celebrity hideaway

The Golden State’s most dangerous places to the celebrate the Fourth of July have been revealed in a new study — and one of America’s most glamorous celebrity playgrounds has landed near the top.

While the city of Clearlake was ranked the state’s most dangerous city for the holiday, it was the luxe beach enclave of Malibu that may raise the most eyebrows after being ranked at fourth, according to California personal injury firm Maison Law.

The firm analyzed 373 cities with populations above 10,000 people across five toxic safety factors — including holiday crash rates, injury death rates, five year crash average, county fire incident rate, and fireworks availability — to rank the most perilous spots in California to celebrate Independence Day.

Despite its multi-million dollar oceanfront mansions where the likes of Cher, Leonardo DiCaprio and Lady Gaga own lavish homes, Malibu earned one of the highest danger scores largely due to its alarming crash statistics.

The city of Malibu reportedly averages nearly 1,000 crash fatalities and injuries per 100,000 residents each year — a staggering figure that some say is fueled by the heavy traffic clogging the winding Pacific Coast Highway, especially during busy holiday weekends.

Another wealthy city also made the top 10 list, with Beverly Hills sneaking in at number 10.

The report’s 10 most dangerous California cities for the Fourth of July are: Clearlake, Susanville, Red Bluff, Malibu, Signal Hill, Eureka, Oroville, Marysville, Modesto, and Beverly Hills.

Researchers said Northern California communities. including Clearlake, dominated the rankings because they face a dangerous double whammy: higher traffic fatality rates and high fire incident rates.

“Fourth of July is one of those holidays where several injury risks collide at once — drinking and driving, late-night travel, fireworks, pedestrians, and fire danger,” said Martin Gasparian, founding attorney of Maison Law.

“The goal of this report is not to scare people away from celebrating, but to help Californians understand where risks are highest and make safer decisions before the holiday weekend.”

Fortunately, not every California city is a danger zone.

The study found Hillsborough to be the safety place in the state to spend America’s birthday, followed by Rancho Palos Verdes, Lomita, Moraga, and Clayton.
