President Donald Trump’s Great American State Fair got off to a troubled start Thursday on the National Mall.
According to reports by The Washington Post, organizers struggled to open gates on time while workers hid construction debris.
Thirty minutes after the scheduled opening, small crowds waited at security checkpoints as power failures disrupted operations.
The food court experienced repeated electrical shutdowns, threatening ice cream supplies on a hot day. The centerpiece Ferris wheel operated only intermittently due to a faulty generator, resulting in frustrated fairgoers waiting in long lines.
A water station vendor told The Post, the water was “room temperature” with no ice available.
Eight states, mostly led by Democratic governors, refused to participate, citing prohibitive costs, leaving their pavilions with minimal displays, such as stock chairs, state images, and fake plants.
One visitor departing Connecticut’s pavilion commented, “Not much to see here.”
By evening, the Ferris wheel briefly operated, drawing crowds seeking views of the fair.
