Political analysts and military experts were outraged on Tuesday night after The Atlantic reported that the latest high-ranking military officer had been forced out under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s leadership.
The Atlantic reported that General Chris Donahue, commanding general of the U.S. Army Europe and Africa and commander of Allied Land Command, had abruptly left the military. The move came at a time when the Trump administration is reviewing its military resources worldwide, but analysts and experts noted that Donahue’s departure would leave a much bigger void than it seemed.
Analysts and experts shared their reactions on social media.
“Cosplay Pete Hegseth is not worthy of cleaning Gen Donahue’s dirty boots. What a disgrace,” Luis Moreno, a former foreign service officer, posted on X.
“F—— outrageous,” Mike Nelson, a retired Army Special Forces officer, posted on X.
“Hegseth purging more senior military talent who give him an inferiority complex,” Laura Rozen, a national security reporter, posted on X.
“The behind-the-scenes grumbling of the military brass about Hegseth firing George and now Donahue is something to behold. There’s a growing disgust with him that reaches to the Chiefs,” Erick Erickson, a conservative radio host, posted on X.
