The New York Times is examining the relationship between New York State and the Indigenous nations within its borders, and if you are a Native American or have had experience working with tribal members or governments, we want to hear from you about your experiences.
Our prior reporting has shown that New York offered fewer protections for native gravesites than other U.S. states. We wrote about the New York governor’s “hardball” seizure of disputed gambling revenues to help build the Buffalo Bills stadium. And we documented a Long Island tribe’s fight to regain recognition after losing it in a racist court ruling in the early 1900s.
We will read every response to this questionnaire, but we will not use your contact information for any reason other than to follow up with you. We won’t share your response outside our newsroom, and we won’t publish any portion of a submission without receiving your permission.
