Peter Frampton jokes he ‘did everything to enhance’ his luscious hair before it disappeared

Peter Frampton joked he got a little frantic over losing his luxuriant locks.

“I did everything to enhance it along the way as it was leaving,” he told Page Six in a recent exclusive interview. “I was cataloging them.”

The musician’s impressive mane was on full display on the cover of his 1976 double live album, “Frampton Comes Alive!”

The Grammy winner shared that it was his childhood friend, David Bowie, who first gave him the idea to cut it all off. Frampton joined Bowie on his 1987 “Glass Spider” tour and was still holding onto his magnificent mane.

“It was starting to, you know, go,” he shared, “and I still kept it really long. And my dear buddy for years, lifelong friend David said, ‘You should cut your hair for this tour.’”

Frampton remembered thinking that was a terrible idea.

“So, the man who recreates himself every five seconds is telling me to cut my hair,” he explained, noting, “I should have damn well done it then!”

But he said not long after the tour, he pulled out the scissors and chopped it off.

The “Show Me the Way” singer, 76, is currently promoting the documentary “Frampton,” which premiered at the Tribeca Festival on Thursday night. The film, directed by Frampton’s longtime bandleader Rob Arthur, features archival footage, interviews and thrilling concert moments.

He also opens up about being diagnosed with Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM), a rare and progressive muscle disease, which affects his mobility and guitar playing.

“My outlook on it is, ‘That’s life,’” he told Page Six. ”I’ve been so lucky. I’ve had an up-and-down career, but in the long run, I look at everything. Look at the last 60 years. Wow, I’m the luckiest guy alive!”

Frampton also has a new album out, “Carry The Light,” which he co-wrote and produced with his son, Julian, and features guest appearances by Sheryl Crow, H.E.R., Tom Morello and Graham Nash.
