A senior Trump administration official revealed to Zeteo that President Trump’s investigation into leaks made to The New York Times reporters has collapsed because, “way, way too many Cabinet-level appointees and senior administration officials” were themselves the sources of those leaks.
Trump, who was described as livid and paranoid, launched a major investigation in April after information reached NYT reporters. The President also demanded his Justice Department raid the reporters’ homes in May.
However, by June, the investigation had effectively stalled.
According to sources, the officials Trump tasked with finding leakers had themselves leaked to the NYT.
One administration official told Zeteo, the suspect list “got too long” to be useful
Another official admitted, “It’s one of the worst-kept secrets at the White House.”
An adviser compared the situation to the ending of Quentin Tarantino’s “Reservoir Dogs,” where characters have guns pointed at each other, ensuring “mutual destruction”—explaining why officials felt comfortable leaking despite Trump calling such acts “treason.”
