15 Unforgettable Looks at the Cannes Film Festival

While the Cannes Film Festival red carpets and events were lighter than usual on Hollywood A-listers, they made up for it in memorable fashion moments.

Over the course of the festival each May, stars celebrate films that are sure to populate next year’s Oscar ballot. And they dress the part.

The festival, with its innumerable photo calls, hotel sightings, panels, parties and premieres, allows us to see the range in a celebrity’s style, with many serving up multiple looks a day. Of all the fashion that descended on the French Riviera over the past week and a half, these ensembles stood out.

Chloé Zhao

A member of this year’s jury, Zhao went straight to the fashion main stage in Schiaparelli, Gabriela Hearst and (here) Prada, proving that just because you are behind the camera doesn’t mean you have to be behind the scenes.

Colman Domingo

The perennial red carpet showman continued his streak in a Valentino blouse suitable for a Vegas magician. Also note the U.F.O.-like brooch dangling from his collar. When it comes to fashion-forward celebrities like Domingo, “neckwear” no longer strictly refers to ties.

Demi Moore

Taking a page from the playbook of Sharon Stone in 2002 — when she turned her stint on the jury into a one-woman fashion show — Moore upped the ante on almost every red carpet, drawing all eyes to her, even without a film in competition. Still, this hot pink Matières Fécales taffeta confection, with its decomposing hem, may be her most pointed look of all — perhaps a meta-comment on the ephemerality of fame and aspiration.

Samira Wiley

With her sleek finger waves, Samira Wiley brought old-school red carpet glamour to the festival. She also brought spectacle, in a black column dress with a dramatic bust and sparkly gill-like protrusions.

Barbara Palvin

Red carpet pregnancy style has become an art in itself, and Barbara Palvin nailed it in her empire-waist Miu Miu: part fairy princess, part earth mother, entirely easy to wear.

Ruth Negga

The bustle dress for a new generation! Ruth Negga’s fashion is nothing if not subversive, and with this custom Prada gown, she brought a Victorian staple to the modern age.

Michael Fassbender

Angular shades, black chukka boots and a jacket straight out of the ’80s: The actor threaded the needle of “casual yet composed” well here. Want to try something similar? That Armani jacket, unfortunately, costs more than $5,000.

Adèle Exarchopoulos

With sleek black trousers that puddle at the feet and a sleeveless cream peplum top, Exarchopoulos might have adhered to the festival’s notoriously strict dress code, but she kept the party in the back. The ensemble, by Phoebe Philo, features an open back and slits in the trousers that show off some skin.

Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart has been loyal to Chanel since the brand signed her as an ambassador back in 2013. With her, the house has been able to show its versatility with more daring designs, but this look, which leaned classic, was a welcome diversion.

Rami Malek

Rami Malek, one of a scant few Hollywood leading men to make the pilgrimage to Cannes this year, kept things minimal in a shades-of-greige Prada ensemble.

Kristine Froseth

Who was having more fun at Cannes than Kristine Froseth? And in a skirt suit, even. Her look, an ivory set with button details, came straight from the Ferragamo Fall 2026 runway.

Cara Delevingne

There is nothing chicer than a little — or, in this case, a long and backless — black dress, and this sinuous Tom Ford look by the designer Haider Ackermann proves it.

Woody Harrelson

The placid atmosphere of a Cannes photo call means that actors don’t necessarily have to venture outside their comfort zone. Woody Harrelson could have worn this pistachio green bowling shirt from Celine and those white plimsolls almost anywhere.

Meadow Walker

Runway styling doesn’t always neatly translate to the real world, but Meadow Walker in a Celine look ripped from the runway is proving it can.

John Travolta

Is that John Travolta or Pierre Escargot? The beret is a cliché, but one must admire Travolta’s commitment to the bit.
