Jimmy Kimmel was savaged online for desperately calling on viewers to boycott CBS after the curtain falls on Stephen Colbert’s cancelled late-night show.
During his opening monologue on Wednesday’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, the 58-year-old comedian urged fans to tune into the final episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Thursday night before pushing viewers to ditch the network entirely.
“I will be watching tomorrow night, I hope that those of you who watch our show will also tune in to CBS for the last time,” Kimmel told the live audience, fuming that the network should feel “ashamed” for pulling his pal’s late night show.
“Don’t ever watch it again. But watch tomorrow night to wish Stephen and our friends at ‘The Late Show’ a fond farewell.”
Colbert’s nearly 11-year “Late Show” run will end after more than 1,800 episodes on CBS, following the network’s move last year to axe the cash-draining program.
Kimmel’s emotional outburst sparked an online firestorm, with critics tearing into his on-air meltdown and demanding he also be canned.
“Fire this a–hole. You pay him millions for this. He is the next to go,” one digital naysayer raged on X.
Another blasted: “Oh Jimmy….. can’t wait till he gets cancelled for the same reason Colbert was cancelled. Losing his network $20+ million per year.”
“I can’t wait till Kimmel’s off the air. Absolute fraud,” one commenter said, while another seethed.
“Jimmy Kimmel is a psychopath. Turn off Jimmy Kimmel. Don’t ever watch it again.”
The network’s decision to cancel vocal Trump critic Stephen Colbert sparked uproar in the entertainment community and led to claims that Paramount Global was trying to appease the president while finalizing its merger with Skydance Media.
CBS, which pulled the show in September, has denied politics drove the decision, maintaining it was purely financial given the show’s reported $40 million annual loss.
Trump, who has long celebrated the cancellation of Colbert’s show, has repeatedly demanded Kimmel’s show be scrapped after he launched a series of on-air tirades targeting him and other conservatives.
Kimmel was yanked off the air for a week last year after affiliates erupted in fury over comments he made about the assassination over conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
