All-new episode of ‘Conspiracies & Coverups’ tackles the War on Drugs

On Wednesday’s “Conspiracies & Coverups,” host and former CIA covert intelligence officer Andrew Bustamante investigates the history and efficacy of the US’s War on Drugs, which has been waged around the world for decades with no end in sight.

Bustamante and a roster of experts will examine the inner workings of the massive multi-decade effort, tracing connections between cartels, covert operations and US intelligence.

Former CIA covert intelligence officer Andrew Bustamante will enlist experts to delve into the War on Drugs on this week’s “Conspiracies & Coverups.”

His deep dive will span from Cold War alliances to the crack era, all the way up to today’s opioid crisis.

Through expert interviews, historical analysis and experiments in the field, Bustamante will look at how drugs move across borders and into communities.

He will seek to answer questions like whether the drug war is being fought, managed or quietly sustained — and why so little progress has been made after so many years.

Bustamante will speak to experts, including combat veteran and former DEA agent Celerino Castillo; K-9 trainer and handler Jourdan Henderson; former CIA intelligence officer Jihi Bustamante; historian and author of “Cold War on Five Continents;” journalist and author of “The Rise of the Warrior Cop Radley Balko; journalist from The Writer’s Cabin Jeff Newton; and Will Freeman, founder of Deflock.

The latest episode of the series — produced in coordination with Texas Crew Productions and New York Post Entertainment — premieres Wednesday, May 20 at 10 pm ET/PT on the Discovery Channel.
