Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oli Sykes suffers concussion after fan throws phone at his head during concert

Phones are not for flying.

Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oli Sykes suffered a mild concussion when a fan launched their phone at him while he was on stage during a concert.

Sykes was struck when he and the band, known for their high-energy performances, were mid-performance of their song “Happy Song” in front of 22,000 at the Enterprise Center in St Louis, Mo. on Monday night.

“Who the f— just threw a phone at my f—in’ head? You f—in’ tosser,” Sykes shouted to the audience while crouched at the front of the stage picking up the phone, in a moment caught on a fan video.

Despite the injury, Sykes finished the show, though the band cut “YOUtopia” from the set and he did not enter the crowd during “Drown” as he usually does.

“Alright everyone – just wanted to let you know I’m all good.” Sykes wrote in an Instagram Story after the incident.

“The phone to the head definitely smarted and I ended up with a mild concussion, but the swelling’s gone down a decent amount already.

“Last night I was struggling a bit on stage afterwards because singing was putting a lot of pressure on the wound and making things feel a bit disorienting while performing, so I’m sorry on my part for what may of seemed like a half-hearted performance.

“Appreciate everyone checking in and worrying about me though 🖤 Everything should be fine for tonight’s gig.”

Bring Me the Horizon continued their spring North American tour with shows in Kansas City, MO and Saint Paul, Minn. earlier this week, before upcoming stops in Rosemont, IL on May 15 and a headlining appearance at the Sonic Temple Festival in Columbus, OH on May 16.

Earlier this month, the band played a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden in New York City on May 2.

The performance marked a significant milestone for Bring Me the Horizon in the US, as it was the group’s first-ever show at MSG.

Sykes is not the only performer to be hit by a phone in recent years. Pop star Bebe Rexha was struck in the face by a cellphone during a concert in NYC in 2023.

The 33-year-old Brooklyn native was moving upstage toward the audience while performing at The Rooftop at Pier 17 when the phone hit her just below her left eye.

Rexha then turned away from the crowd and fell to her knees as crew members rushed to assist her.
