You know the left half of our nation is in serious trouble when “woke” parents decide to keep their kids home from school because of an event celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Founding of the United States.
As The California Post reported, Canyon Hills Junior High School in Chino Hills held an event called “History Rocks 250.”
There was nothing partisan or objectionable at all about it. It was simply a display of patriotism and a celebration of American history.

That’s the sort of thing that triggers the left nowadays. According to “progressives” and those steeped in Critical Race Theory, the birth of America was an act of original sin whose stain can never truly be erased.
American history, they believe, is simply a long list of oppressive events, with white supremacy atop a pyramid of misery.
But in Chino Hills, the cause of the backlash was even more specific: the patriotic event was being supported by Turning Point USA and the Heritage Foundation.

Liberal groups have a disproportionate role in school curricula. But if two mainstream conservative groups happen to think waving the flag for a day is a good idea, all hell breaks lose on the left.
One can only pity the parents who pulled their kids out of class for the day. They have been brainwashed by the liberal media. They are victims of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS), according to which anything President Donald Trump does must be wrong, even if you like it; and anyone who supports Trump must be shunned, even if they are your friend, relative, or neighbor.
Joining a celebration of America that happens to be associated with Turning Point USA and the Heritage Foundation does not mean agreeing with everything those groups believe. Likewise, learning about civil rights from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) does not mean supporting every controversial position the ACLU takes.

This is the sort of madness that is pulling America apart. Can it really be that one half of our country won’t celebrate the anniversary of our independence if the other half appears to be enjoying it too much?
The Civil War ended in 1865. More than half of our country’s history has unfolded since then.
Let us remember the words of Abraham Lincoln’s Second Inaugural: “With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in.”
We have so much more to do if we want to secure the future of freedom in our next 250 years. It is going to take all of us, left and right, working together, to make it happen.
