Broadway rumors swirl as Lea Michele calls out of ‘Chess’ following Tony Awards snub

She’s not sulking, she’s sick.

There is Broadway chatter that Lea Michele called out of “Chess” after being devastated over the Tony Awards nominations snub on Tuesday.

“She gave another excuse,” says one source. “Everyone knows she was upset. She was hysterical.”

But a Broadway insider tells us the chanteuse, who plays Florence Vassy in the Broadway revival and has never got an Tony nomination, isn’t being a diva — she is just really down and out.

“She was sick last weekend and probably should have taken off Saturday and Sunday,” says a source. “She really is not well.”

“I’m sure she is disappointed as everyone is for her, but she really was under the weather,” they added.

Michele was out of the show last Friday, but pushed through the weekend.

A third source tells us that the songstress, “has laryngitis and it developed into bronchitis.”

We hear a doctor has cleared Michele to take the stage on Friday for any ticket holders eager to see the former “Glee” star in person.

The revival itself received five nods including Best Actor in a Musical for Nicholas Christopher, Best Featured Actor for Bryce Pinkham and Best Featured Actress for Hannah Cruz.

Michele’s performance has drawn rave reviews.

She has starred in a number of Broadway shows including 2022’s “Funny Girl.” She was not eligible for a Tony because she took over the role from original star Beanie Feldstein.

She has also appeared in “Les Misérables,” “Ragtime,” “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Spring Awakening.”

Michele is in good company when it comes to surprising snubs from this week’s awards announcement. Neither Oscar winner Adrien Brody or Tessa Thompson from “The Fear of 13” were nominated. “Proof” star Ayo Edebiri and “Dog Day Afternoon” star Jon Bernthal were also frozen out.

“The Lost Boys” and “Schmigadoon” came out in the lead with 12 nods apiece.
