Dem congressional candidate arrested at May Day protest that blocked Wall Street

At least five people — including a Queens congressional candidate — were arrested Friday as part of a May Day protest outside the New York Stock Exchange.

Democrat Chuck Park was cuffed while blocking the entrances to Wall Street, his team confirmed.

“Chuck was exercising his right to peaceful protest in support of working people—values that have always been at the core of his campaign,” his team said on X.

“For too long, our economic system has prioritized billionaires and corporate interests over the workers and union members who keep New York City running. Chuck stands with those demanding a fairer economy. It’s time to tax the rich and ensure that billionaires finally pay their fair share.”

The Post observed at least four others being detained by the NYPD, which confirmed that “multiple people were taken into custody.”

What the protesters were arrested for or would face any charges is not yet clear.

Roughly 150 protesters descended on the NYSE Friday afternoon and blocked the entrances to Wall Street as part of a nationwide call for an economic blackout.

Another rally was held in Washington Square Park, where Mayor Mamdani spoke in support of the protesters.

“Workers have won the rights that we take for granted today. The 40-hour work week. The weekend. Overtime pay. Minimum wage. Social security. Workplace safety standards. These have all been won by the workers who came before us,” Hizzoner said.

“We know those rights are not inevitable. We have to work together to not just protect them, but to advance that same agenda,” he continued.

Similar protests were unleashed in California, with organizers urging supporters to skip work, school and shopping as a show of solidarity for the working class over corporations.

Park, of Flushing, was protesting alongside Sunrise Movement NYC, which describes itself as a “movement of young people fighting fascism to win a Green New Deal.”

Park is running to unseat longtime Rep. Grace Meng, and has been campaigning on the rights of working-class and immigrant New Yorkers.

“I’m not just running against an out of touch incumbent. I’m running against the corporate class that controls her,” Park’s campaign website states.
