Sen. Chuck Grassley, 92, (R-IA), befuddled his colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday when he was caught on a hot mic questioning some of the answers that witnesses were giving.
The committee met to question several of President Donald Trump’s judicial nominees, and some Democrats asked the nominees who won the 2020 general election. There have been multiple hearings where Democrats have asked Trump judicial nominees the same question, and they have refused to say outright that former President Joe Biden won the election.
While Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) was asking a witness a question, Grassley turned to his staff and began discussing what he had heard without first turning off his microphone.
“What would be wrong if they said Biden won?” Grassley asked his staff.
The MeidasTouch Network posted on X that multiple people in the room heard Grassley’s comment. Blumenthal was also reportedly disturbed by the remarks, turning to look at Grassley during his questioning.
