Fans of the Bravo reality show “Summer House” got an unauthorized preview of this season’s reunion episodes when an audio clip of what appeared to be cast members arguing was leaked in recent days and spread widely on social media.
Anticipation is high for the Season 10 reunion, which was filmed on Thursday, with fans expecting to see the fallout of recent conflict between the cast members Amanda Batula and Ciara Miller, who were once close friends. Batula recently confirmed rumors that she was dating Miller’s ex-boyfriend, West Wilson, who is also a cast member. Drama ensued.
What’s up with the West-Amanda-Ciara love triangle?
For the uninitiated, the drama in question began with speculation in recent months that Batula — who is recently separated from her husband, Kyle Cook, also a cast member on the show — was dating Wilson.
A video circulated online that appeared to show a kiss between Wilson and Batula. It came as a shock to “Summer House” viewers who had followed what seemed to be a genuine friendship between Batula and Miller; Batula even played a large role in coaching Miller through her breakup with Wilson.
Batula and Wilson confirmed their romance on March 31, when they posted matching joint statements on their Instagram Stories that said they were still exploring and figuring out their “connection.” “We’ve shown up for each other as friends over the years, through all the highs and lows,” the statement read, “and what’s developed recently was the last thing either of us expected. Our connection grew out of a genuine, longstanding friendship, which made it especially important for us to approach this with care.”
In the weeks after Batula and Wilson went public, Miller largely avoided addressing the drama publicly (aside from the occasional sly reference on social media) — until she gave an interview to Glamour magazine this month. In the interview, which was part of a cover story about Miller, she said she felt the most betrayed by Batula: “At the end of the day, a guy’s a guy,” she said. “Whether or not West and I are working on a relationship, you just can’t put anything past a man. But I just never would think that it would come from someone like Amanda.”
What we know about the leak:
Because Batula and Wilson confirmed the dating rumors after Season 10 had already wrapped filming, the reunion would have been the first time Batula, Miller and Wilson came together on TV to address the drama. It is set to air in parts beginning on May 26.
A roughly two-minute-long clip of audio that has circulated on TikTok and other sites captured an apparent confrontation between Miller, the new couple and other cast members. Miller can be heard expressing feelings of betrayal and anger toward Batula, and other cast members, including Cook, could be heard expressing their confusion and anger at the new relationship.
The confrontations were what fans expected from the reunion — but they arrived weeks early, before the season’s finale, which is set to air on May 19.
Bravo investigated the ‘unauthorized recording.’
Bravo posted a statement on Sunday to Instagram and X, saying that it had found the source of the leak. The network also shared the statement with The New York Times via email.
“The audio was an unauthorized recording and distributed by an individual involved in the production of the reunion,” the statement said, noting that “appropriate action has been taken” as a result. The network did not say what action had been taken or whether the individual it said was involved had been fired, and representatives from Bravo declined to comment further.
For the network, the leak reflects the heightened visibility and public scrutiny aimed at reality stars. For fans, it’s another reason to look forward to the full reunion, which is set to air in late May.
Is this just a P.R. stunt?
Andy Cohen, the executive producer at Bravo who hosts the reunions, strongly condemned the leak on his own Instagram. In a reply to a fan on Threads, he said: “People laid their souls out emotionally for ten hours yesterday and it’s disgusting and illegal for someone to leak or distribute this. It’s disrespectful to the work and tears the cast put in yesterday. Let the season play out. You will see it all in due time.”
