President Donald Trump became defensive during a CBS News interview with Norah O’Donnell on Sunday, one day after alleged shooter Cole Allen opened fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
O’Donnell referenced Allen’s manifesto, in which he described Trump as “a pedophile, rapist, and traitor,” and asked Trump to respond.
Trump lashed out at O’Donnell, denying the accusation and calling her a “disgrace.”
Social media observers quickly fact-checked the president’s response.
Atlantic contributing editor Norman Ornstein reacted on X, noting a jury and judge found Trump liable for rape in the E. Jean Carroll civil case, and cited Trump’s admitted behavior including entering dressing rooms with naked teenagers. Journalist Nancy Levine Sterns commented, “Trump is a clinical-grade psychopath,” while novelist Patrick Tomlinson stated Trump is “literally a court adjudicated rapist.”
In 2023, a jury found Trump liable in Carroll’s civil sexual abuse and defamation case, with a judge later clarifying the verdict meant rape liability, as reported by the Washington Post.
