Cole Tomas Allen, the man suspected in the White House correspondents’ dinner shooting, is set to make his first appearance in federal court in D.C. on Monday. In a message sent to family members Saturday night, the 31-year-old suspect called himself a “friendly federal assassin” and criticized Trump administration officials and what he called lax security at the Washington Hilton, which hosted the event, before allegedly charging through a screening checkpoint toward the ballroom where the dinner was taking place. One Secret Service officer was struck by a bullet during the attack but was protected by a bulletproof vest.
