Political analysts and observers were outraged after new details from the investigation into the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner were revealed.
The Washington Post reported on Sunday that President Donald Trump’s administration did not designate the dinner as a “National Security Event,” which would have increased security around the Washington Hilton, in advance of the event. That’s despite the President, Vice President, and several other people in the line of succession attending, according to the report.
“The Trump administration provided a lower level of security for the White House correspondents’ dinner than it has for other gatherings of high-ranking officials, even though the president and many Cabinet members were in attendance, according to officials familiar with the plan,” the Post reported.
Analysts and observers reacted to the report on social media.
“Why can’t the media, after 10 years of this, just call BS?? Just say it. It’s BS. It makes no sense at all,” author Don Winslow posted on X. “Every single standard security protocol was abandoned.”
“So despite the Trump Administration instituting a half-a—- security protocol, even Blanche says it was a ‘massive security success.’ So why do we need a $400 million gold-plated ballroom again?” Jesse Lee, a former Biden administration official, posted on X.
“I chalk it up to them being incompetent dips—- but this is the kind of weird detail that fuels conspiracy theories,” journalist Steve Watts posted on Bluesky.
