NYPD cop opens fire on career criminal who shot man outside NYC store in ambush-style attack

An NYPD officer opened fire on a career criminal after he pumped several bullets into a man sitting outside a Harlem convenience store Friday night, police said.

Randy Negron, on parole for attempted murder, allegedly launched his ambush-style attack on the unidentified victim on West 125th Street near Amsterdam Avenue at about 6:20 p.m., cops said.

As Negron, 32, allegedly shot the man several times, a pair of plainclothes happened to be driving by on the same street and witnessed the mayhem.

The cops jumped out of the car and one gave chase to Negron, NYPD Assistant Chief Aaron Edwards said at a Friday evening press conference.

Around the same time, a second gunman darted into the middle of the intersection and fired at the fleeing Negron.

The cop also opened fire, according to Edwards.

Negron was shot once, but it wasn’t immediately clear if he was struck by police or the second gunman.

The second gunman fled and remained on the loose Friday night.

Negron and his alleged shooting victim were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where the former was listed in stable condition and the latter in serious, but stable condition.

No cops were shot during the harrowing ordeal.

Police said Negron was convicted of attempted murder for a June 2015 shooting in the same neighborhood in which he took aim at several people.

Negron was freed from prison in June 2025 and is on parole until August 2029, Edwards said.

He has 11 prior arrests, including for several other violent felonies.

The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division is probing the shooting.
