Top ER doctor accused of doing drugs and drinking on the job — but she’s still allowed to operate

An ER doctor in San Diego is being forced into drug and alcohol testing after allegedly showing up to work impaired, including slurred speech — while treating patients.

Dr. Ariana Dillman, a Solana Beach physician, was working an emergency room shift when she “exhibited behaviors consistent with intoxication or impairment,” including “slurred speech, droopy eyelids, and erratic behavior,” according to a Medical Board of California accusation cited by ABC10.

Despite the gravity of the allegations, Dillman is still permitted to treat patients, but only under close supervision. She must undergo random drug and alcohol tests, attend a support group, and steer clear of controlled substances.

The June incident escalated when Dillman refused to take a drug test on the spot, the report states.

The board alleges Dillman “has used controlled substances, dangerous drugs, or alcoholic beverages” in a way that could impair her ability to safely practice medicine.

Following the incident, Dillman’s employer suspended her privileges, and state records reveal that a psychiatrist diagnosed her with alcohol use disorder.

“Unfortunately, we’re seeing a lot of cases like this across the state,” Michele Monserratt-Ramos, a patient advocate with Consumer Watchdog, told the outlet.

“There should really be stricter standards for physicians that are found under the influence while in a hospital setting while practicing,” she added.
