Everything We Know About the Jim Carrey Clone Conspiracy

When Jim Carrey showed up at the 2026 César Awards in Paris to accept an honorary prize, the internet responded by deciding he had been replaced with a clone, because everyone’s brain has been so thoroughly fried by our conspiracy culture that it becomes the most logical conclusion for some people.

Carrey doesn’t look wildly different from how he always looked. He’s aged, which is what happens when you age. But more than that, some people were claiming that the 64-year-old looked unrecognizable, which is a bit of a stretch. Few people on earth look like Jim Carrey. Though it wouldn’t be out of the question for a celebrity, or really any human on the planet, to have a little bit of cosmetic work done to mitigate signs of aging.

Is It Plastic Surgery?

Some theorized he had probably had some cosmetic work done. Obviously, none of this is confirmed, as I’m just compiling random bits of speculation I’ve picked up from around the internet, most of which is coming from sites so trashy that I feel dirty for visiting them, but unfortunately, they tend to be decent sources for this kind of vapid speculation on the kinds of surgery celebrities might’ve had.

Some of that work includes…

Endoscopic brow lift – a minimally invasive procedure that cranks up your eyebrows a bit and smooths forehead wrinkles.

Upper blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) – It’s an eyelid lift, essentially. Surgeons remove excess skin, muscle, and fat from the upper eyelids to prevent them from looking saggy and heavy. Commonly referred to as simply a “bleph.”

Filler injections in the cheek/midface area: a gel-like substance is injected under the skin to smooth out wrinkles and provide some contouring to a sagging face.

Botox – literally just botulism, a neurotoxin that can kill you if you eat something teeming with it, but mostly it’s safe to inject into your face to temporarily paralyze muscles to smooth out wrinkles.

Again, none of this is confirmed. It’s just rampant speculation, though none of it would be surprising, except for maybe the Botox one, since Carrey’s face appears as expressive as it’s always been.

No, It’s Obviously a Jim Carrey Clone. Idiot.

Of course, some people went full-blown insane with it, suggesting that simple and logical explanations like aging and minor cosmetic touchups were stupid explanations. Clearly, Carrey hired a body double, or perhaps even had himself cloned and sent out his clone to receive a lifetime achievement award at a French award ceremony.

Yeah, that makes sense, you absolute idiots. You total buffoons.

Photos from the ceremony lit up social media feeds, with commenters calling the 64-year-old actor “unrecognizable.” Some theorized cosmetic work. Others went full conspiracy board, suggesting a body double, a clone, or something more sinister. The fact that Carrey has kept a relatively low profile in recent years only intensified the speculation. He had previously said he was “fairly serious” about retiring, but he said that in 2022, and a couple of years later, he was out on a worldwide publicity tour for Sonic The Hedgehog 3.

His reps confirmed that Carrey — the real human being — attended and personally accepted the Honorary César at the César Awards. The show’s general delegate said the appearance had been planned for months and that Carrey practiced his acceptance speech in French extensively, because he is an actor, and that’s what they do. He attended with family, including his daughter and grandson, and longtime collaborator Michel Gondry, the director of Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.

In his speech, Carrey reflected on his nearly five decades in the entertainment industry. He referenced his French ancestry and thanked his family, including his late father. It was earnest and sentimental, and now completely overshadowed because everyone’s brain is soup.
