MAGA influencer Steve Bannon slammed the Trump administration’s plan to withdraw 700 Department of Homeland Security officers from Minneapolis after Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol agents killed at least two U.S. citizens.
Bannon expressed concern on Wednesday after border czar Tom Homan said 700 agents would be removed from Minneapolis.
“We’re kind of at an inflection point,” the MAGA influencer warned. “Now, and this is where this fight’s really going to get tough. I kept telling you that we haven’t seen the tough part yet. We’re starting to enter part of the tough phase.”
“And I beseech the Trump administration, people around President Trump, Homan, and the vice president, etc., you can’t put a smiley face on this,” he continued.
According to Bannon, Homan had taken a “shot” at former Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino by unifying the chain of command.
“We don’t have enough good guys on our side for the team to be taking shots at each other,” he complained. “And Bovino is still my guy. I’ll just say it. What Bovino was doing was the right thing. Because eventually we’ve got to get to mass deportations.”
Bannon also took issue with Homan’s claim that there had been “unprecedented cooperation” from local officials in Minnesota.
“If it’s unprecedented collaboration enough to draw down 700, which is a drawdown, and they will interpret it, the way it’s interpreted symbolically, will be as a retreat,” he griped. “Somehow I’m confused on our strategy here.”
