Apple TV Series ‘The Hunt’ Is Pulled Amid Accusations of Plagiarism

Apple TV pulled its series “The Hunt” days before it was scheduled to debut following an accusation that its director plagiarized key elements of the show’s plot from a little-known novel published in 1973.

The show’s French production company, Gaumont, confirmed the postponement in a statement on Tuesday, saying that it was conducting a review to address “any questions related to the production.”

The statement added, “We take intellectual property matters very seriously.”

The decision by Apple came after reports surfaced that the screenwriter, Cédric Anger, had created a series whose plot was very similar to that of “Shoot,” a 1973 thriller by the American author Douglas Fairbairn. The book was translated into French the following year under the title “La Traque,” which translates to “The Hunt,” Apple Insider reported.

Clément Garin, a French media journalist, reported on Substack that Mr. Anger had not informed Apple TV that his show was an adaptation. The French-language show, starring Benoît Magimel and Mélanie Laurent, was filmed in France last summer and fall and was scheduled to debut on Dec. 3, Mr. Garin reported.

Apple TV did not respond to a request for comment.
