Foliage colored in its most vibrant autumnal shades and agreeable weather are two reasons that October might be the best month of the year to be outside in New York City. A third is the people watching, which can offer endless style inspiration — particularly for putting on layers.
Capes that flowed into skirts, coats on top of denim jackets and socks worn over tights were examples on the streets of New York last month that showcased the creativity that makes layering so fun to see. Some layers were bright sweaters or cozy scarves, which made ensembles even more festive. And though many people were covered up, a few held onto summer by wearing shorts, high-slit skirts or other layers that bared a little flesh.
