EXCLUSIVE: Emma Laird has joined Dominic West and Sienna Miller in upcoming legal series War for HBO and Sky.
The series, which is currently shooting, is the latest project from Hijack creator George Kay. It is set in the elite world of London law, focusing on two rival law firms – Cathcarts and Taylor & Byrne – made up of men and women at the top of their game. The series kicks off with the films going head-to-head in a scandalous divorce case that sends shockwaves through boardrooms and courtrooms alike.
Deadline can reveal that The Brutalist and Mayor of Kingstown star Laird will play Molly Giordano, a training associate at Taylor & Byrne. She works there with her best friend Saeed, who is also a training associate, but only one of them can secure an end-of-year training contract, which pits the two against each other in perpetual friendly rivalry.
War is the latest co-production between Warner Bros. Discovery-owned cable network HBO and Comcast-owned British pay-TV broadcaster after their collaborations on projects such as Chernobyl, The Young Pope and The Baby.
Laird is fast becoming one of the most sought-after actresses in the UK. She can next be seen in upcoming period satirical comedy Fackham Hall from writer Jimmy Carr and director Jim O’Hanlon. The film is a spoof on the franchise Downton Abbey and Laird stars opposite Thomasin McKenzie, Damian Lewis and Katherine Waterson. The film is produced by Elysian Film Group and Archery Pictures via their Mews Films label. Bleecker Street is releasing in U.S. cinemas on December 5 while Entertainment Film Distributors is releasing in the UK on December 12.
Laird will also be seen in Sony’s 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, written by Alex Garland and directed by Nia DaCosta. The film was shot back-to-back with its predecessor 28 Years Later and will serve as the fourth instalment in the film series. Laird stars with Ralph Fiennes and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. That film will be released on January 16, 2026.
Additionally, Laird is starring in upcoming BBC series Mint, the first TV series from Scrapper writer-director Charlotte Regen. The darkly comic show is about what it’s like to grow up in a crime family. It takes the characters that we normally gloss over – the kids, the mothers, the grandmothers – and it shines a spotlight on their lives, rather than those of the gangsters. Tessa Ross and Theo Barrowclough produce.
Further future projects featuring Laird include a supporting role in the upcoming Apple TV+ limited series Neuromancer opposite Callum Turner and a role in Cary Joji Fukunaga’s Blood on Snow also opposite Taylor-Johson.
Laird is repped by CAA, United Agents and Anonymous Content.
