EXCLUSIVE: NBC is not proceeding with its planned Snoop Dogg’s New Year’s Eve special, which was to be carried live by the network and Peacock.

“Sometimes the calendar gets in the way of the celebration, which is why my NBC family and I decided this winter was time for us all to focus on the Olympics,” Snoop Dogg said in a statement to Deadline. “But don’t worry, we’ll party together bigger and better later in 2026. Ya dig.”

NBCUniversal announced in September that Snoop Dogg, one of the breakout stars of the Paris Summer Olympics coverage, will be back on duty for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

Announced at the NBCUniversal upfront in May, the two-hour Snoop Dogg’s New Year’s Eve was slated to air live from Miami on December 31 at 10:30 pm ET/PT, offering “a night packed with unforgettable music, iconic performances and surprise artist collaborations.”

The special, produced by Den of Thieves and Death Row Pictures, stemmed from Snoop Dogg’s longstanding relationship with NBCUniversal, which includes a multi-year deal the rapper and his Death Row Pictures production company signed with NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios in April.

On NBC, in addition to his Olympics coverage, Snoop Dogg is currently back for his second stint as a coach on The Voice.

It is unclear yet what will replace Snoop Dogg’s New Year’s Eve on NBC. Given the timing, mounting a new live New Year’s eve special is considered virtually impossible. NBC could air a pre-taped special on December 31, which was the case last year when New Year’s eve fell on Sunday and the network carried Sunday Night Football instead of a live variety special. The previous two years, NBC aired Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party, also live from Miami.

The pulling of Snoop Dogg’s New Year’s Eve by NBC would likely leave two live New Year’s broadcast specials this year: ABC’s mainstay Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest, which has been dominating viewership on the night for decades, and CBS’ country-themed New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash.
