After Martin Scorsese‘s Emmy-nominated cameo on The Studio‘s pilot episode, the Apple TV+ series has apparently become the hottest ticket for many an A-list director.

Co-creator and star Seth Rogen recently detailed the “very meta” experience of having to turn down some of his favorite directors who want to appear on the show, following the 4x Emmy-winning first season.

“It does feel like I’m running a fake movie studio at times,” he told GQ. “I’m having directors’ agents call me to pitch their clients to be the directors of fake movies on our show, which is very weird and very meta. And I’m having to actually turn down directors I’m a big fan of because the movie, the fake movie, maybe isn’t quite right for the fake package we have in our heads. So yeah—it’s gotten very strange.”

Following Scorsese’s hilarious appearance as himself, directors like Ron Howard, Sarah Polley, Olivia Wilde, Zack Snyder, Aaron Sorkin, Parker Finn and more have also appeared on The Studio.

Meanwhile, the success of his industry satire—co-created by Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory and Frida Perez—has resulted in several industry folks regretting their previous rejections of Rogen.

“I had a few people come up to me at the Emmys saying they regret it, which was very meaningful to me,” added Rogen with a laugh. “That’s all I want—for people to regret not working with me.”

In September, Rogen won his first four Emmy Awards for the series, taking home Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
