Family, friends and colleagues gathered for a vigil Tuesday evening in Eagle Rock to remember a Los Angeles Metro bus operator killed over the weekend in a hit-and-run collision.
The fatal crash occurred Sunday evening at around 7:40 p.m. near the onramp of the 2 Freeway and Colorado Boulevard, according to the L.A. Police Department.
Details are limited and it’s unclear exactly how the collision happened, but Metro officials told KTLA that the bus operator was on break when she was fatally struck.
Medical personnel with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and attempted life saving measures, but the victim, identified by family members as Tanya Perry, succumbed to her injuries and was declared deceased.
Footage of the aftermath posted to the Citizen showed first responders attempting CPR on the victim. The area was later cordoned with yellow crime scene tapes while authorities examined the scene for evidence.
Police have not yet said if there is possible surveillance video of the crash, nor have they provided a description of the suspect vehicle.
Tara Logan, the victim’s sister, told KTLA that she hopes whoever was involved in the deadly hit-and-run turns themselves in.
“My sister was a very loving person. She worked every day and inspired everyone around her,” she said. “This is just devastating to our family. She didn’t deserve that.”
Logan said that her sister always had a good job and was “always on the move,” and had even started a new baking business called Forever Sweets she was working on before her death.
In a statement provided to KTLA, a spokesperson for Metro thanked police and firefighters for their quick response after the tragic crash.
“Metro extends its deepest sympathies to the operator’s family, friends and colleagues,” the statement continued. “Grief counseling is being made available on-site for the operator’s coworkers.”
Anyone with information about this investigation is encouraged to contact LAPD. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline or leave tips online at www.lacrimestoppers.org.
