Fox is in a listening phase as the company continues to acquire companies in the audio space.
Fox Entertainment has acquired rom-com podcast company Meet Cute, which is behind shows such as A Mid-Semester Night’s Dream, starring Bridgerton’s Charithra Chandran, and Cruise Ship from Pretty Little Liars author Sara Shepard.
The move comes after Fox acquired Red Seat Ventures, the podcast company behind shows from Megyn Kelly and Tucker Carlson, earlier this year, Fox One added Nancy Grace’s daily video podcast Crime Stories to its platform, and Fox-owned Tubi struck a deal with Ashley Flowers’ Audiochuck to bring podcasts such as Crime Junkie, The Deck and Park Predators to its service.
Fox has been on an acquisition spree recently with other deals including for vertical video company Holywater.
Meet Cute was founded by Naomi Shah, a former Goldman Sachs trader and member of Union Square Ventures investment team, in 2020, to produce romantic comedy podcast series made up of original 15-minute episodes. It has now produced over 300 series.
The company has previously had film and TV deals with companies including Range Media Partners and Wiip.
The idea for Fox Entertainment is that it can use Meet Cute’s IP to “shorten traditional development cycles” and “allow the studio to make data-informed decisions on what to scale into series, films, or multi-platform franchises”.
It wants Meet Cute to serve as a “rapid-development content incubator” producing scripted and unscripted series.
As part of the move, Shah has joined Fox Entertainment as SVP, Operations & Strategy, where she will focus on AI innovation, entertainment technology, and IP expansion.
“From day one, Meet Cute’s mission was to build stories at the speed of culture,” said Shah. “Joining Fox Entertainment allows us to scale that vision — giving creators a faster path from idea to audience, integrating real-time audience feedback, and bringing new voices and formats to life across Fox’s global platforms.”
“Innovation in digital storytelling is shaping the future of entertainment, and with Meet Cute, we’re building a space where creators can move fast, take risks, and shape what’s next,” added Hannah Pillemer, Head of Scripted at Fox Entertainment Studios, who oversees Meet Cute. “It’s a creative lab for storytelling – developing and testing new voices and IP in real time and connecting bold emotionally resonant stories to audiences everywhere.”
