A 78-year-old San Bernardino County man was arrested for reportedly trying to murder his estranged spouse earlier this week.
Deputies with San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Big Bear Station were alerted to gunfire in the 1100 block of North Mound Street just before 7 a.m. on Nov. 3.
The caller, a neighbor, reported that the gunman, later identified as Tamio Sakai, a resident of Big Bear City, was firing off rounds outside his estranged spouse’s home, according to a SBSD news release.
Responding deputies located the 78-year-old near his vehicle in front of the residence and quickly detained him.
“Deputies located the firearm in Sakai’s vehicle and observed evidence that it had recently been fired,” investigators stated. “Deputies determined that Sakai had fired multiple rounds in the direction of his estranged spouse.”
The victim, who has not been identified, was not struck by the gunfire and did not sustain any injuries during the incident, authorities added.
Sakai was arrested and booked at the West Valley Detention Center for attempted murder. He is currently being held on $1.3 million bail and is set to appear in San Bernardino County Superior Court on Nov. 5.
Investigators did not provide a motive for the alleged shooting.
