Jameela Jamil Starring In BBC Spin-Off ‘The Split Up‘
Jameela Jamil has joined the cast of BBC spin-off The Split Up. Her role is being kept under wraps but the BBC posted on Instagram this morning with a pic saying she will guest star in the show that brings “New cast, new city, and fresh heartbreaks” to The Split’s franchise. Jamil, star of The Good Place and She Hulk: Attorney at Law, joins leads Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy) and Sanjeev Bhaskar (Unforgotten), along with fellow guests Lenny Henry and Jane Horrocks. The show, which is a spin-off of Abi Morgan‘s legal drama The Split set in Manchester, is created by Ursula Rani Sarma and centers on Kishan Law – a powerhouse British South Asian family firm, and the go-to for the city’s elite. The show’s preparation wasn’t smooth after shooting was stood down last year for editorial reasons, before being started up again. After kicking off her career on the UK’s T4, Jamil has starred in a variety of big American hits. The Split Up is based on The Split and produced by Sister in association with Morgan’s Little Chick. Morgan is EP alongside Rani Sarma, Jane Featherstone (Black Doves, Coldwater) and Bryony Arnold (Code of Silence, Peaky Blinders).
Red Herring Developing Housing Crisis Series
EXCLUSIVE: Red Herring Story, the new UK label from Trom creator Torfinnur Jákupsson, is develolping a comedy thriller set against the backdrop of the UK housing crisis. Red Herring has struck a deal with first-time British writer Thomas Reed, who is penning Clifton. No network is attached as of yet. Clifton explores the precarious balancing act of Britain’s property ladder “where the climb is shaky, the rules are twisted, and the people holding the keys might not be what they seem,” Red Herring said. “Comedy is often the sharpest lens on truth, and that’s what drew us to the project,” said Jákupsson. “It sits among a new slate of Red Herring comedy thrillers that blend humour with high-stakes human drama and suspense with social commentary.” Red Herring launched earlier this year and is also develping a Nordic Noir set in London’s Canary Wharf. Jákupsson, who created hit Faroese drama Trom, is also making a crime thriller with his separate GRÓ Studios outfit and Three River Fiction.
5 Buys ‘Taggart’ Catalog
“There’s been a murder…” British network 5 has bought all 27 seasons of long-running crime drama Taggart. The deal with STV Studios means 110 episodes of the Scottish series will join 5’s streaming service. Taggart, created by Glenn Chandler, originally ran between 1983 and 2010, and rumors of a reboot has variously surfaced in the 15 years that have followed its cancellation on ITV. Cherry Vantreen, Director, Acquisitions and Co-Productions at 5 and Paramount UK, called the show “a timeless favourite that perfectly complements our growing catalogue of quality drama boxsets.” Taggart follows a team of cops in Glasgow who investigate often grisly murders and complicated cases, initially led by the title character, Jim Taggart, played by Mark McManus until his death in 1994. The likes of Jason Isaacs, Alan Cumming, Dougray Scott, Robert Carlyle, Celia Imrie and Mark Bonnar have guested on the show. Imrie and Bonnar recently re-teamed in hit BBC series The Celebrity Traitors.
