PHOENIX — A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a vehicle while in a crosswalk in south Phoenix on Saturday night, according to authorities.
The Phoenix Police Department responded around 10:45 p.m. to a report of a vehicle collision with a man near the intersection of 7th Avenue and Vineyard Road.
Police found the man, later identified as 49-year-old Alfredo Enrique Denogean, “unresponsive” on the ground and the Phoenix Fire Department, which had also been called to the scene, pronounced him dead from his injuries.
The unidentified driver who collided with the man remained on the scene, authorities said, and didn’t show any signs of impairment following evaluation.
Details on what led to pedestrian death by vehicle collision
Detectives belonging to the Phoenix PD Vehicular Crimes Unit determined through initial investigation that Denogean was walking within the crosswalk against traffic when he was hit by the vehicle.
His walking direction is currently unknown but detectives said Denogean was “on the south side of the intersection.”
No other information was provided in this ongoing investigation.
