A Halloween party in Santa Clarita turned deadly on Friday night after gunfire broke out, killing one person and injuring another, according to authorities.
Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of a shooting around 11:15 p.m. in the 25000 block of De Wolfe Road, near Lyons Avenue, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said in a news release.
When deputies arrived, they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds near a home where a large Halloween celebration was taking place. One adult man was pronounced dead at the scene, while another person was taken to a nearby hospital in unknown condition, authorities said.
No suspect description was immediately available, and the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
Video from the scene showed deputies surrounding a silver Dodge Charger as dozens of partygoers — many still wearing costumes — stood nearby. Witnesses told stringers that one person dressed as a surgeon was seen providing first aid to one of the victims before deputies and paramedics arrived.
As of early Saturday morning, homicide detectives remained at the scene gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
