I ate at Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes’ steakhouse, 1587 Prime. These 9 details made for an unparalleled experience.

My husband and I love trying steakhouses around the country, so when Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes announced they’d be opening one in Kansas City, we knew we’d be going.

The Chiefs players partnered with Noble 33 hospitality group to open 1587 Prime on September 17. Though reservations can be hard to come by, we snagged a table for four for on Saturday, October 18.

Our group ultimately spent about $800 on this special dinner, which consisted of several impressive cocktails, appetizers, entrées, sides, and desserts.

Though we’ve been to several famous steakhouses, 1587 Prime impressed us so much that it’s already one of our favorites.

Here are a few things I feel helped create such a noteworthy dining experience.

The restaurant looked glamorous from the entrance to the bathrooms.

As soon as we passed through the marble entryway, we were welcomed by cases displaying meat, shelves with bottles of wine, and a grand staircase.

The ambient mood lighting was excellent, from the lights in the staircase to the little gold lamps on each table.

Steakhouses can sometimes be dark and stuffy, but this one felt open and bright, even with the dim lighting. Plus, the gold and white marble accents helped keep the space feeling modern.

The lovely design details extended all the way to the bathrooms, where a mirror, complete with selfie lighting and neon “Rare and Well Done” signage, is just begging diners to take a picture.

1587 Prime turned metal into gold with The Alchemy cocktail, a nod to Taylor Swift.

I was delighted to see a subtle nod to Swift, who recently got engaged to Kelce, on 1587 Prime’s cocktail menu.

Right below Kelce’s Big Yeti drink is The Alchemy, a vodka cocktail referencing Swift’s song on “The Tortured Poets Department.”

Though I’m typically a tequila fan, I wouldn’t feel like a true Swiftie if I didn’t order it. A drink honoring the iconic musician, of course, comes with a little production.

The glass, wrapped in a gray, cotton-candy-looking material, was placed on a metal coaster and then set on fire at my table.

My drink was truly dazzling as it twinkled for several seconds before fizzling out. It tasted perfectly balanced — the oolong, citrus notes, and fruity flavors combined to create a bright, tangy, yet still-sweet sip.

There’s also an especially unique cocktail for Mahomes that utilizes his favorite drinks.

One unexpected delight was that our server shared her knowledge about the cofounders and the creation of the 1587 Prime menu.

When one of our group members asked about Mahomes’ cocktail, Showtime, she told us that it was a special twist on a rum and coke.

Showtime contains both coffee and Coors Light syrup to highlight Mahomes’ well-documented love for coffee (he supposedly drinks at least three cups a day) and Coors Light (he’s a huge fan and has even partnered with the brand).

Overall, the best way our table could describe the taste of this one cocktail was “unique.” We still feel like it was worth the try, though.

I was impressed by the menu, which felt like it had something for everyone.

In our party of four, we had a mix of people who love steak and people who don’t. Although 1587 Prime is a steakhouse, I was pleasantly surprised to find a much wider range of options on the menu, including many seafood dishes.

I prefer seafood, so I ordered the twin lobster tails. I got two huge tails for $76, which I felt was one of the best deals on the menu, especially since the same dish would’ve cost me over $100 at a different steakhouse we went to a few months ago.

The lobster was cooked to perfection and had a unique smokiness to it that made it memorable. One from my party ordered the scallops, which turned out to be one of my favorite bites of the night.

The golden-brown seared scallop was so tender that I could cut through it with just my fork. The bite melted on my tongue, and the sauce added a depth of flavor to the dish.

The other half of our party ordered the $125 6-ounce Japanese A5 wagyu and said it was the most tender steak they’ve ever had.

We felt like we were part of a live cooking show with the tableside flambé experience.

My husband paid $27 to add the tableside flambé experience to his steak. So, the entrée portion of our meal started with a fiery show.

A flambé cart was rolled over to our table, and the gueridon server placed the bone marrow butter in the pan and began detailing each step of the process. After the butter was melted, he added the bundle of herbs, poured in the brandy, and then set the pan on fire.

The tableside experience added a special touch to dinner, though we didn’t think it significantly enhanced the flavor profile of the steak.

Even so, feeling like we were part of the cooking process made this add-on worth trying at least once.

The servers made for a top-notch experience.

When you’re paying a high price tag for a meal, you expect more than good food — you also expect a certain level of service.

Honestly, though, 1587 Prime surpassed my expectations. Our server had insightful answers to all of our questions, and every single employee we encountered seemed polite and accomodating.

On multiple occasions, I observed people stopping to take a photo on the staircase, only to have a server come walking down and end up in the background of their picture.

Staff had every right to be annoyed by diners being in their way when they’re just trying to do their job. However, I watched as the servers would apologize to the guests for getting in their way.

1587 Prime’s dress code has a couple of unique things to note.

As we’ve visited more steakhouses, I’ve noticed that many are actually quite relaxed when it comes to dress codes, even if they have them listed on their websites.

Diners don’t always follow it, nor is it always enforced. However, at 1587 Prime, the dress code listed online (“business casual or dressy evening wear”) seemed to be upheld.

As I gazed around, I noticed a mix of dress pants, cocktail dresses, collared shirts, heels, and blazers.

I didn’t see any jeans, shorts, or T-shirts — in fact, you probably won’t, either. The website notes staff are “happy to provide a complimentary, freshly laundered 1587 Prime polo for your visit” and it’s also available for purchase.

The standout exception to the dress code, though, is that Chiefs gear is allowed to be worn on game days.

Local partnerships were highlighted throughout the menu.

Even though I’m not from Kansas City, our regular trips to the Heart of America have given me a deep appreciation for all it has to offer.

So, I liked that 1587 Prime seemed committed to sourcing ingredients locally and supporting nearby businesses through various partnerships.

Beverage-wise, the restaurant uses and serves products from three local distilleries — Holladay, J. Rieger & Co., and Tom’s Town — and two local breweries, Boulevard Brewing Co. and KC Bier Company.

My husband and I love Boulevard, and we always make it a priority to stop there when we’re in Kansas City — I highly recommend going on its brewery tour or just stopping in to hang out at its bar.

Another standout partner to me was McClain’s Bakery, a Kansas City staple. If I ever return to 1587 Prime, I’ll definitely be ordering a piece of the fluffiest-looking cheesecake.

The personal touches felt classy, not gimmicky.

If you’re expecting jerseys, footballs, and action shots from the games at this steakhouse, you’ll be disappointed.

Though the Chiefs fan in me would’ve appreciated those additions, I was happy to see personal touches and special details woven into the experience in more modern, classy ways.

For starters, the restaurant’s name is already a subtle nod to the owners: 1587 is a combination of Mahomes’ (15) and Kelce’s (87) jersey numbers.

This number is also imprinted on the large ice cube that comes in the Big Yeti cocktail, another fun touch.

On the menu, there’s not only a drink for each cofounder and their significant other (like the Queen B for Brittany Mahomes), but also cocktails referencing the team and city.

Some of my favorites were Kingdom Come, a reference to how Chiefs fans are referred to as being part of the Chiefs Kingdom; Power & Light, named after a popular entertainment area in Kansas City; and Jet Chip Wasp, a nod to an iconic play from the Chiefs’ LIV Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers.

There’s also a special food reference: The Big Red cheeseburger shares a nickname with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who famously loves cheeseburgers.

These small touches were the perfect way to delight Chiefs fans in the dining room while still keeping the overall chic and upscale atmosphere.

All in all, I hope to return to 1587 Prime.

In my opinion, Mahomes and Kelce were able to incorporate their personalities, football team, and the city into the restaurant in a way that felt genuine and meaningful.

In fact, our entire experience felt that way from beginning to end.

I highly recommend adding 1587 Prime to your must-visit list if you enjoy elevated dining experiences and fine steakhouses — even if you’re not rooting for the Chiefs.
