In an era driven by Hollywood nepo babies, Dave Franco doesn’t totally agree that the label applies to him.

The 2x Emmy nominee, whose brother is James Franco, argued that “no one was going to hire me just because I was James Franco’s little brother,” although he credits his big bro for getting him an agent and helping jumpstart his Hollywood career.

“If I sucked, I would’ve disappeared very quickly,” he told Bustle, noting that the Oscar-nominated eldest Franco brother is proud of his success.

Dave said, “At this point, I think he’s excited just to see me trying new things and to see me grow.”

After making his onscreen debut in a 2006 episode of 7th Heaven, followed by an appearance in Superbad the next year, Dave Franco has gone on to star in such films as Fright Night (2011), 21 Jump Street (2012), Now You See Me (2013), Neighbors (2014) and Together (2025), in addition to starring alongside James in 2017’s The Disaster Artist. This year, Dave extended his TV resume with his Emmy-nominated appearance as himself this year on The Studio.

Following a $2M+ settlement in the 2018 sexual exploitation class action lawsuit brought by his former acting students, James Franco most recently signed on for a role in Adam Rifkin’s psychedelic stoner comedy Toad, co-starring Tiffany Haddish, Christopher Meloni, Craig Robinson and Katt Williams.
