A Riverside man who is on parole for molesting a child was arrested during a compliance check Thursday after deputies found a backpack containing a rope and a ski mask, among other items he’s prohibited from possessing.

Brian Keith Mosby, 63, was arrested for violating his parole during a citywide compliance check of registered sex offenders and convicted arsonists.

Mosby was previously convicted of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years by force/fear, police said.

He was contacted by Riverside police officers on the 700 block of South University Drive, and was searched on the scene as allowed by the terms of his parole.

During that search, officers found a backpack containing rope, a ski mask, condoms and “sex-enhancing pills. Possession of these items, officials said, is a violation of the terms of Mosby’s parole.

He was arrested on scene and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, where he awaits charges.

Mosby’s arrest was part of a widespread police operation with special teams and task forces from throughout the region. Thursday’s operation saw officers make contact 25 known offenders at 12 different locations.

“These proactive operations help confirm the information offenders provide and ensure they’re following the rules designed to protect our community,” Compliance Unit Officer James Payne said in a news release.

If you have information about a registered sex offender in the city of Riverside, you can contact the RPD 290 Compliance Unit at 951-353-7113. Additional resources can be found at meganslaw.ca.gov.
