Mamdani Holds Onto Strong Lead in Two New Polls Ahead of Election Day

Two new polls released on Thursday showed Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani maintaining or expanding his sizable lead in the New York City mayoral race, as the two other major candidates strive for a late surge in the final days of the campaign.

A poll by Emerson College showed Mr. Mamdani, the Democratic front-runner, leading by 25 percentage points. He has led the field since his upset victory in the June primary.

His main rival, former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, was a few points ahead of Curtis Sliwa, the Republican nominee. For Mr. Mamdani, the results represented a seven-point increase in support since the last Emerson poll, in September.

With less than a week until Election Day, the candidates all said they had seen optimistic signs for their campaigns in the high turnout during early voting. The Emerson poll found that among New Yorkers who had already voted, 58 percent had cast their ballots for Mr. Mamdani.

His lead has been buoyed by strong support among young people and Black voters, some of whom have shifted their support away from Mr. Cuomo over the past two months, the poll found.

The other poll, by Marist University, showed Mr. Mamdani with a 16-point lead in the three-way race. He was the only candidate who engendered a favorable view from likely voters. A previous Marist poll found Mr. Mamdani with the same advantage.

The new Marist poll showed a tighter race in a hypothetical matchup between Mr. Cuomo and Mr. Mamdani, with Mr. Cuomo trailing by just seven points.

Mr. Cuomo has repeatedly called on Mr. Sliwa to abandon his campaign to consolidate opposition to Mr. Mamdani. But Mr. Sliwa has refused and has attacked Mr. Cuomo during recent debates and at campaign events.

The results from both polls, which could be among the last released before Election Day on Tuesday, largely aligned with those of other surveys in recent weeks and months. On Wednesday, a Quinnipiac University poll found that 43 percent of likely voters supported Mr. Mamdani, putting him 10 points ahead of Mr. Cuomo.
