Emmy winners Claire Danes and Ewan McGregor are set to headline the Hulu drama series The Spot, from creator/executive producer Ed Solomon and A24.
Danes replaces Kate Winslet who was attached as star and executive producer when the project, in a very competitive situation, landed at Hulu in August 2024 with a straight-to-series order. She left this past June for creative reasons. Danes was approached to succeed her a couple of weeks later, kicking off months of negotiations. She was recently joined by McGregor.
Created and written by Solomon, who will serve as showrunner, The Spot follows a successful surgeon (Danes) and her school teacher husband (McGregor) who begin to suspect she might be responsible for a child’s hit-and-run death. Their quest for truth spirals into a web of mounting suspicion and dark secrets, testing their resolve and their relationship as they confront the possibility of hidden guilt and betrayal.
Solomon executive produces alongside Robin Sweet and Ariel Kleiman, who will direct. A24 serves as lead studio, co-producing with Hulu sibling 20th Television. Production is slated for 2026.
Danes, a two-time Emmy winner for Homeland, is reuniting with that series’ co-creator/executive producer Howard Gordon and studio 20th TV on the upcoming Netflix limited series The Beast Inside Me, in which she stars opposite Matthew Rhys. She previously starred in FX’s limited series, Fleishman is in Trouble, earning an Emmy nomination. Danes is repped by WME, Michael Aglion at Signpost Management and Ziffren Brittenham.
McGregor, an Emmy winner for the Netflix limited series Halston, recently headlined the Showtime limited series A Gentleman In Moscow. He next stars opposite Anne Hathaway in Warner Bros.’ sci-fi movie Flowervale Street. McGregor is repped by UTA, attorney Robert Offer and Mariya Levy of Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
